What is Periodic Technical Inspection (PTI)?

To ensure road safety and compliance with road safety regulations, EU Directive 2014-45-EU – International Periodic Technical Inspection (PTI) – was introduced. We carry out this Europe-wide standardized regulation for periodic vehicle inspections for all vehicle types. The PTI is comparable to the main inspection (HU) in Germany.

What is Repeated Technical Inspection (RTI)?

A Repeated Technical Inspection (RTI) is the follow-up inspection that may be required if the Periodic Technical Inspection (PTI) has been failed. The RTI is comparable to the "follow-up inspection for the main inspection (HU)" in Germany.

Important: If the RTI is not completed within the one-month period, a full vehicle inspection must be performed again.

By the time of the follow-up inspection as part of the Repeated Technical Inspection (RTI), all defects, even minor ones, must be remedied. Otherwise, the inspection report for the passed PTI cannot be issued.

When is an RTI necessary?

If deficiencies are discovered during the PTI inspection, a follow-up inspection, known as the RTI, is required. According to the law, this must be completed within one month.

Important: If the RTI is not completed within the one-month period, a full vehicle inspection must be performed again.

All defects, even minor ones, must be remedied during the follow-up inspection as part of the Repeated Technical Inspection (RTI). Otherwise, the inspection report confirming the successful PTI cannot be issued.

How much does the Periodic Technical Inspection (PTI) cost?

The prices for the PTI (Periodic Technical Inspection) and any subsequent inspection (RTI), as required by EU Directive 2014-45-EU, vary depending on the vehicle and are based on the fees for the general inspection charged by KÜS e.V.

When is the PTI due? PTI inspection intervals

PTI inspection intervals vary depending on the vehicle type and size. Inspection intervals are usually every 12 to 24 months.
